Choi Woo-shik is a Canadian (Named Edward Choi) being an actor in South Korea. That’s why he called “Canada Boy” with some Canadian accent. Previously, Woo-shik worked as a barista in Canada so that he can save more money move to Korea developing his career. His early roles like Deep Rooted Tree (2011 cameo) tested his Korean re-learning curve. In leisure, he love spicy tteokbokki and bubble tea. As well as that, Big Match (2014) as a hacker showed his skill; Also, the Our Beloved Summer” (self-sung) highlighted his musical talents.

Choi Woo-shik first gained attention on television should be The Duo (2011). In the show, he was playing the younger version of Gwi-dong in a brief. And then the next one should be Rooftop Prince (2012). Woo-shik portrayed Do Chi-san as a loyal Joseon courier with a comedic twist alongside Lee Tae-sung.

His early TV career continued to build with Special Affairs Team TEN (2011-2013). At this time, he played rookie detective Choi Woo-jin. Fans love his potential of being ensemble casts. However, the real breakout TV moment should be Hogu’s Love (2015) as Kang Ho-gu. This show is a naive romantic opposite Uee. Mostly receive positive feedback.

Train to Busan gave him a ride:

The My Fantastic Funeral (2015) is a dark comedy special where he led as Jang Geun-seok. The storyline is about a man staging his own death. Obviously, it’s good but not really compare to his global breakthrough Train to Busan (2016). This global famous movie was definitely a big opportunity for Choi Woo-shik reach global audiences. He act as Yong-guk who is a baseball player fighting zombies. Not only his physicality but also the emotional depth alongside with Gong Yoo.

It’s make sense led him to the next movie Parasite (2019). This is a film that Bong Joon-ho’s Oscar-winning masterpiece and Woo-shik played Ki-woo who is the cunning son of the Kim family. The movie also made him earning a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast.

Back on TV show, Fight for My Way (2017) featured him in a hilarious show as Park Moo-bin. Followed by that is The Package (2017) for him lead as Kim Gyung-jae who is a tourist navigating love in France. For his romantic side catching the real attention in Our Beloved Summer (2021-2022). Being the primary lead as Choi Ung, a laid-back artist opposite Kim Da-mi. This role deepened his K-drama solid role with a self-sung OST.
